PNP Website Updates
We recently added a new Testimonials page to the website, with comments that people have made in their submissions to the Community Noise Survey and by contacting the Noise Project directly, as well as a city contact page to help residents let the mayor and city council know about their experiences of noise. (If you know additional ways to contact them, or other city departments / officials who would be listed on the page, please contact us.)
|
We continue to add media coverage, and clinical studies on the health effects of noise, to our Resources page. And we’re hoping to add a map showing some of the survey data we’re collecting, so stay tuned. If there are things you’d like us to add to the website, please let us know.

City Council Noise Resolution
We think at the very least the city Council should form a subcommittee to study noise issues, similar to its committee on ATVs (which are a longstanding source of noise in the city). If you agree, please contact your Councilmember and tell them that noise is an important, long-term issue that deserves the Council's attention and action, especially since the mayor seems unwilling to provide leadership.

Noise in the ‘Hood 2: Measuring Noise
The Noise Project’s plans to measure ambient noise levels at various private locations such as houses and businesses around Providence have changed slightly — our technical partners decided to use various public locations (e.g., schools) instead to begin the sound measurements this Fall. We'll provide additional updates on the effort later this year.
|
Thanks to everyone who offered to let us measure noise at their residences. We may still try to do so next year, if it's needed to get a more representative sample of noise levels in the city. Either way, what gets measured gets addressed.

Community Outreach Continues
The first phase of the Noise Project is focused on gathering information and public input on noise issues in Providence. In addition to the Community Noise Survey, we've been reaching out to local civic groups and government agencies to get their perspective on the city’s soundscape. We recently introduced the Noise Project in online meetings of the Central Providence and West Elmwood Health Equity Zones, and will be talking to other organizations in the coming months. If you are affiliated with or know of a group you think we should reach out to, please let us know.

Stay tuned for updates on our new Providence-specific logo, an effort to tackle illegal modified mufflers, and other initiatives to try to bring noise in the city down to healthier levels ...
