We need you to talk to your City Council
member about leafblowers
You are receiving this message because you submitted a leafblower pledge or otherwise indicated an interest in addressing leafblower noise in Providence. We have been working with Ward 1 City Council member John Goncalves since 2021(!) to try to get an ordinance amendment that would update leafblower regulation in the city.
A previous leafblower amendment had a hearing in the City Council’s Ordinance Committee in November 2021, but was never brought up for a vote in the committee, and thus never went to the full Council for a final vote to pass it.
More recently, Councilmember Goncalves has drafted a new leafblower ordinance amendment, but has yet to introduce it to the full City Council for a committee hearing, citing other legislation as taking priority over leafblowers.
As the weather has begun to improve and leafblowers are starting to come out once again like mechanized cicadas, we think the City Council’s priority for greater leafblower regulation is right now.
We need Ward 1 residents to attend Councilmember Goncalves’ upcoming April 29 community meeting (see details below) and ask him to introduce the new leafblower amendment, so it can get a hearing and a vote before the Autumn leafblowing season.
If you can’t attend in person, please e-mail Goncalves with the same message at ward1@providenceri.gov and please “cc” the Noise Project’s info@ address so we can track his response. (You can also both e-mail him and attend the community meeting.)

Below is the information about the upcoming community meeting:
