New and Improved Website
We are grateful to PNP's first volunteer, Mike M., for developing our website , which is a huge improvement over the original "placeholder" site when the Project launched in late 2020. We recently updated the Resources page with more information on the health effects of noise, added a Providence noise-law factsheet (in English and Spanish) for people to download / print / distribute, and added demographic questions to the Community Noise Survey. More updates are coming soon, so stay tuned. And if there are things you'd like us to add to the website, please let us know.

Community Outreach Continues
The first phase of the Noise Project is focused on gathering information and public input on noise issues in Providence. In addition to the Noise Survey, we've been reaching out to local civic groups and government agencies to get their perspective on the city's soundscape. We recently introduced the Noise Project at an online meeting of the Central Providence Health Equity Zone, and will be talking to other organizations in the coming months. If you are affiliated with or know of a group you think we should reach out to, please let us know.

Turning Over a New Leaf (Blower)
Among the most frequent sources of noise we hear about from residents on the East Side is leaf blowers, and we've been soliciting input on how to address the issue. One suggestion was to create a list of landscaping services that already use quieter equipment, such as battery-powered version of current gas-fueled ones. If you use or are aware of such a service — or would like PNP to contact a specific company to find out if they would be willing to offer the option of using quieter equipment — please contact us with their full name and any contact information you may have.

Noise in the 'Hood
We are in the process of arranging to measure ambient noise levels at various locations around Providence later this Spring. If you are interested in offering your home or business as a potential location for our sound-measuring gear, please contact us. The equipment is roughly the size of a toolbox, is battery powered, and remains indoors, with a cord running outside to a microphone on a tripod. It will need to remain in place for about a week. Please include photos of the area around the proposed location (i.e., down the street, in front, behind), as well as where the tripod / microphone would be located. Our technical partners will evaluate its suitability and let us know if it's a good fit.
